2020 Cleveland FootGolf Cup

First off, you may be asking, what is FootGolf? FootGolf is a combination of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. Kick a soccer ball into a larger cup, got it?

Now with that part out of the way….

Offside Marketing teamed up with our friend Tim Schifle of Yoder Graphics to co-present the first-ever, 2020 Cleveland FootGolf Cup. Initially as a way to get some of our local English Premier League supporter groups (unable to meet up at our local soccer pubs due to COVID-19) together as a way to meet and see each other in a socially-distanced way for an outdoor sport, quickly grew into something way larger.

“FootGolf offers the same beautiful scenery, relaxing pace that you expect with golf, but with much less frustration, significantly lower costs, a better workout, and a chance to do something relatively new,” explains Tim, whom is a dedicated FootGolf player himself.

Tim’s idea grew and turned into over 40 players coming together at North Olmsted Golf Club on Saturday, September 12 for the 2020 Cleveland FootGolf Cup. Drawing not only local English Premier League supporters, but fans across the board of the beautiful game.

In addition to the awesome turnout, this first-ever event scored some amazing sponsors. Platform Beer Company, whom remain a massive soccer brand, joined the event as our Official Craft Beer Sponsor. We have always been a major fan of the work coming out of the Atlanta-based soccer media start-up, Small World Soccer, whom joined us as our Official Media Partner. And you cannot have a soccer event without some stellar merchandise, for that we turned to our friend D.J. Switzer of Added Time Outfitters and enlisted them as our Official Soccer Lifestyle Partner.

Check out Beyond The Pitch section of The Direct Kick where we go inside and learn more about the amazing work Small World Soccer and Added Time Outfitters are doing as disrupters in the soccer landscape!

The event showcased some amazing footwork and competition, resulting in Cleveland Gooners (Arsenal Supporters) winning the first ever 2020 Cleveland FootGolf Cup Trophy, with Cleveland Soccer Club (Men’s Semi-Professional NPSL club) taking 2nd and the Cleveland Red Devils (Manchester United Supporters) taking home the 3rd place position. The prize winnings went to the winning teams charity of choice.
